The Undeterrable & Ever Vigilant Vanguard

'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably' - Captain Jean-Luc Picard

One year into the Dominion War, Starfleet handed Starbase Vanguard over to the Federation Civilian Defense Authority to look after her until the war ended. Over two decades later... after being all but abandoned... Starfleet has returned to reclaim her. A base was needed for the SFMC and Vanguard was the perfect location.

SB Vanguard is a simulation in Theta Fleet that explores the darker, edgier sides to Star Trek that aren't very often touched upon. If you're new to simming or a veteran Trekkie... come along and join us for a journey through a different side of Star Trek!

» Award Nominations

Posted on Mon Dec 4th, 2017 @ 8:08pm by Colonel Horatio Drake in Sim Announcement

So the award nominations have been piling up and there truly are some great ones, all of which are well deserved. I wanted to authorise and publish them here, along with the reasons for nomination!

Leah Jamison - Doyle Mystery Award - Nominated by Susan
Allison has developed a great NPC character in the Disney CEO. She has developed an amazing mystery that currently spans three missions and has her kidnapped by the Orion Syndicate and hopeless in a cell on one of their ships. She has kept up the mystery and let it build slowly to the reveal of her own man being part of the plot against her. The plot is believable and interesting, as well as written well.

Lieutenant Jasmine Collins - Doyle Mystery Award - Nominated by Susan
Lily and Tom have been working together on a mystery plot for the last two missions. It involves a mysterious object and possibly BORG nanites! The mystery is ongoing, so I'm suggesting a December nomination for this one. Both players are writing well, keeping up the suspense, and making me want to keep reading!

Lieutenant Thomas Maynard - Doyle Mystery Award - Nominated by Susan

Jade Lantz - Player of the Month Award - Nominated by Tom
Susan has been the rock of the sim since I've been on it. We've had good times and bad times and she's really attempted to get everybody posting when the sim was quiet. Without her, I feel people may have given up. But because of her, the sim can keep on going and now thrive once again.

Lieutenant Commander Chlamydia Addams - Teamwork Award - Nominated by Chantal
Jenny is wonderful at creating posts that involve a lot of people. We are currently working on several extensive posts that detail what happens during a Halloween party and seance at the Addams home. The posts are quite a lot of fun.

Lieutenant Jasmine Collins - Doyle Mystery Award - Nominated by Chantal
The post in question actually involves Lt. Thomas Maynard and Lt. Jasmine Collins as they analyze a mysterious metal object with startling and potentially dangerous results! This one has me hanging on the edge of my seat, waiting for the sequel.

Lieutenant Commander Paul Graves - Unsung Hero Award - Nominated by Jenny
Chantal is the backbone of this game. Not only does she write not one but two superb medical characters, she constantly and consistently fills in for departments where we have no active player currently. She has, in my experience, never refused an invitation to a joint post, and she makes everything she participates in better.

Guys... I not only want to second all of these awards but also make a point of saying how nice it is that we've got these nominations. It shows that we appreciate the work and effort others put in!

» September/October Awards

Posted on Sun Nov 19th, 2017 @ 2:00pm by Colonel Horatio Drake in Sim Announcement

So, slowly but surely we are returning Vanguard to her former glory. Even in our weakened state we are still managing to scoop some fleet awards.

In September we received the BRONZE UNIT OF DISTINCTION from Theta Fleet. These award images will be going up onto the site soon, hopefully.

For October we also received the BRONZE UNIT OF DISTINCTION. I think this goes to show that, even without much activity, the quality of what we're producing is still there!

I'm also really happy to announce that Jenny has received POST OF THE MONTH - TASK FORCE 23 for ... ewpost/712.

Post of the Month:
Task Force 23:
Vanguard: This has to go to Jenny this month, ever present on Vanguard and ever producing technically incredible posts both in the writing sense and the medical sense!

I've got a whole load of personal award to also give out, Susan have nominated a few individuals as well. These are on their way, but even awarding everyone UoD's on both the TF website and Vanguard site is very time consuming! So these awards will be out in due course!

I want to thank everyone, again, for their continued dedication to the sim and can't wait to see where this current mission takes us!

I'm so sorry to have been gone for a week without warning. My computer died! Of course, I couldn't contact anyone, because you know where all your e-mails are, right? I'm back and have replied to some of the JPs that are ongoing, but I need to catch up on what's happened while I was gone before the rest move forward. That will happen over the next couple of days.

Please give a warm welcome to Christina who joins us with Lieutenant Jadera Baro, Chief Operations Officer. Christina comes with a host of experience in Star Trek simming and has got some brilliant Treknobable in her arsenal!

We'll be hopefully getting her boarding post out at some point this week.

» July Awards

Posted on Sat Aug 19th, 2017 @ 11:24am by Colonel Horatio Drake in Sim Announcement

Another amazing month for us has seen yet more awards come our way.

From Theta Fleet:
Silver Unit of Distinction (joint award with USS Erebus & USS Winchester)

James filed our monthly report this time around and nominated Jenny for Writer of the Month - naturally she won!
Jenny plays Chlamydia Addams, our chief medical officer. She has developed a character who is quite mysterious and unique in her own ways. She has started developing the 'family' story with such uniqueness that it shows how great she is at writing. When there is anything medical related, the terminology she uses and the descriptions are so good, it immerses me into any post she writes.

And some In-House Awards...
Lieutenant Commander Paul Graves, Jade Lantz, Lieutenant Commander Chlamydia Addams & Lieutenant Thomas Maynard - Departmental Distinction Award: Civilian.
It gives me great pleasure to award the four of you this distinction award for your efforts in the civilian department. Simming on a Starbase is significantly harder than playing on a ship sim. To begin with, we are static and have to create our own world, in one place. We don't have the luxury of visiting a different world every week with a new set of predicaments. With this in mind, the standard of creativity must be a lot higher. The four of you have managed to create an incredible and thriving civilian population on Vanguard. It is something that we can all dip into and out of whenever we dry up for ideas and are incredibly lucky to be able to do so. Well done on achieving this level 2 award!

Lieutenant Jasmine Collins - Cupid Award
Need I say any more? Our first proposal happened only a couple of weeks ago! The romance was a storm in a teacup and I'm excited to see where it will go. I can only wonder at what the wedding will be like!

Well done to all! Service records will be updated accordingly!
