The Undeterrable & Ever Vigilant Vanguard
'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably' - Captain Jean-Luc Picard
One year into the Dominion War, Starfleet handed Starbase Vanguard over to the Federation Civilian Defense Authority to look after her until the war ended. Over two decades later... after being all but abandoned... Starfleet has returned to reclaim her. A base was needed for the SFMC and Vanguard was the perfect location.
SB Vanguard is a simulation in Theta Fleet that explores the darker, edgier sides to Star Trek that aren't very often touched upon. If you're new to simming or a veteran Trekkie... come along and join us for a journey through a different side of Star Trek!

Another amazing month for us has seen yet more awards come our way.
From Theta Fleet:
Silver Unit of Distinction (joint award with USS Erebus & USS Winchester)
James filed our monthly report this time around and nominated Jenny for Writer of the Month - naturally she won!
Jenny plays Chlamydia Addams, our chief medical officer. She has developed a character who is quite mysterious and unique in her own ways. She has started developing the 'family' story with such uniqueness that it shows how great she is at writing. When there is anything medical related, the terminology she uses and the descriptions are so good, it immerses me into any post she writes.
And some In-House Awards...
Lieutenant Commander Paul Graves, Jade Lantz, Lieutenant Commander Chlamydia Addams & Lieutenant Thomas Maynard - Departmental Distinction Award: Civilian.
It gives me great pleasure to award the four of you this distinction award for your efforts in the civilian department. Simming on a Starbase is significantly harder than playing on a ship sim. To begin with, we are static and have to create our own world, in one place. We don't have the luxury of visiting a different world every week with a new set of predicaments. With this in mind, the standard of creativity must be a lot higher. The four of you have managed to create an incredible and thriving civilian population on Vanguard. It is something that we can all dip into and out of whenever we dry up for ideas and are incredibly lucky to be able to do so. Well done on achieving this level 2 award!
Lieutenant Jasmine Collins - Cupid Award
Need I say any more? Our first proposal happened only a couple of weeks ago! The romance was a storm in a teacup and I'm excited to see where it will go. I can only wonder at what the wedding will be like!
Well done to all! Service records will be updated accordingly!

Helo, all--I will be away from home until Saturday evening. I am unable to access this site by cellphone; I keep being told that my password is not correct, even though it works just fine on my desktop computer. So if a miracle happens, and I am able to access Vanguard while I'm away, I will. Otherwise, it will have to wait until Saturday.

If you've been wondering about this Tetraball thing, I've added a page in LCARS for you!
Going to the Category page and scrolling to the bottom, you will now find Sports & Games. If you click on that, there is a page on Tetraball. Andrew and I are making up most of the rules as we go! The information there is a combination of what we've made up and what was published in a Federation News Service article a while back.
You can access the FNS articles right on our own MAIN page by scrolling down under all our MANY awards and the description of our current mission. Two ideas have already come out of FNS articles, and I don't doubt there will be more!

So, a relatively quiet month this time around but still with some remarkable posts being put out there!
Silver Unit of Distinction - this month saw us achieve the silver UoD for TF23. Considering it's been such a quiet month I think we should be really happy with this! We can't always get gold! Well done, all!
James filled in the monthly report this month and has sneakily nominated me for Writer of the Month which, for some bizarre reason, I won! He had this to say:
Writer of the Month:
Task Force 23 (tie):
Vanguard: Colonel Horatio Drake played by Jamie. The XO said: I have decided to complete the Monthly Report myself this month so we can recognize Jamie for how in depth and how good his posts are as Horatio Drake. This month he is running a mission to explore the USS Bretagne, whilst contending with a betrayal that happened at the previous mission with his XO and Drake's own hate for Starfleet. Jamie consistently shows Drake's state of mind in all his posts and ensures all posts are as highly detailed as possible.
Lastly, and a surprising one, is CO of the Quarter.
CO of the Quarter:
Task Force 23: Horatio Drake, Starbase Vanguard
This quarter, Starbase Vanguard has been at the top of its game. Much of this is due to its Commanding Officer. Not only is there a lot of mission-related posting going on, there is also a thriving civilian sector on the Starbase. There are some great writers and great posts on the sim as well.
Whilst this is very kind of them, I disagree with the fact that the success of this sim has more to do with me than anyone else on this sim and it's something that I talk about all the time. I was asked the other day by a new CO to the fleet, 'how have you made Vanguard so successful?'. My response was that I haven't done anything. I had an idea for a Marine Starbase years ago which turned into Protector... this is just an evolution of that. What makes this sim so utterly amazing and unique and brilliant is the incredible writers we have on board. The writers who talk about intricate details, the writers who have created merchants and shops and gardens, who run bars, who run infirmaries, who write posts with the biggest range of original ideas and exciting stories that I have ever seen in 14 years of simming. It is truly you who have made this sim what it is... I'm just glad to be a part of it!
Everyone will be receiving the Silver UoD this month on their service records as well as the CO's Merit award.
